Will They Come?
It always seems that the day before a Mighty Men meeting, no matter how much planning, preparation and prayer that we have put into its success, I am still haunted with doubts! Will anyone show up tomorrow to our special event Come Together at Daniel Drake Park? Will the weather keep men away? How will the guys receive this difficult and possibly very uncomfortable conversation surrounding racial injustice and the role of the Church?
I do not know is the answer.
Over time, mind you, I’ve figured out that my job is to trust God to show up and lead the way. He will open hearts and minds and win the day, not me, our terrific speakers, donuts, coffee or any of our men. My thoughts drift off to a scripture passage I read this week…seriously. One of my favorites! Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Okay great passage, but will anyone come tomorrow? We are all broken and flawed and I continue to prove that fact.
The concept of Mighty Men was a dream God placed on my heart.
As a group of men over 50, I feel we continue to evolve and grow closer to one another and to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and for that I take pause and say thank you, Lord. Mighty men will show up tomorrow! I’m sure we will have some tense awkward moments and maybe even agree to disagree about some issues, but we will begin and end our time together trusting our God and asking him to open our hearts and minds to new ideas and of course watch over, guide, and protect all his children.
See you tomorrow!
